Downtown Apartment Building Fire
Saturday, September 4, 2010

At 1443 hours, Station 7-4 along with Companies from 7-1, 7-11, 7-9, 7-5, 6-7, Dauphin County Companies 88 and 48 were alerted to the square at South Market St. and High Street for a fire reported.

Engine 7-4-2 made the first response with a crew of 6. Crews arrived and found smoke from the basement and leaves smoldering between a door caused by a cigarette butt.

Crews canned the smoldering fire and checked for extension and downgraded the box quickly.

The box was placed in service 45 minutes later.


 
   
   
Field Fire and Middletown House Fire

At 1435 hours, Engine 7-4-2 was requested by Chief 7-11 (Standford) to assist with brush on fire along 283 west bound and Mount Gretna Road.

Engine 7-4-2 assisted Tanker 7-11 with minor overhaul before being released.

At 1546 hours, RE 7-4-1 was alerted by Dauphin County radio of a working house fire in Middletown Borough.

RE 7-4-1 set up as the R.I.T and assisted laddering the structure. RE 7-4-1 cleared the 88 box about an hour and a half later.


 
   
   
Windshield Pop and Apartment Building Fire
Monday, August 30, 2010

At 2153 hours, Rescue Engine 7-4-1 and Rescue Engine 7-11-2 (Rheems) were dispatched to the 900 block of S. Spruce Street for crash with reported entrapment.

RE 7-4-1 arrived followed by Deputy 7-4 (Bock) finding one vehicle on its side and one patient confined. Crews popped out the windshield to gain access to the patient. RE 7-11-2 controlled fluids. Crews wrapped up shortly thereafter.

An hour later, Station 7-4 along with units from 7-11, 7-5, 7-1, 7-9 and 88 were alerted to the 1000 block of Bainbridge St for a fire reported in an apartment building.

Engine 7-4-2 arrived to find nothing showing and staged side alpha of the fire building.

After crews investigated, they found burnt food on the stove and downgraded the assignment. Crews wrapped up after ventilation of the fire building


 
   
   
2 Alarm Barn Fire On Bossler
Sunday, August 29, 2010

At 1450 hours, Engine 7-4-2 and Engine 7-4-1 was alerted to the 2900 block of Bossler Road in West Donegal Township for a working barn fire.

Chief 7-11 (Standford) responded while receiving information from LCWC of a working barn fire. Chief 7-1-2 was on the scene and requested the 2nd alarm, Chief 7-11 was about a mile out with heavy smoke showing.

Engine 7-4-2 arrived and went to work pulling the step gun and assisted with extinguishment in the start of the incident.

Later into the incident, Engine 7-4-2 supplied Middletown Truck 88, while they operated the elevated master streams.

RE 7-4-1 was directed to the fill site at Stackstown Road and Sagersville Road drafting from a stream supplying a tanker shuttle.

Crews operated the 2 alarm blaze for about 5 hours before being released.

Station 7-4 wants to thank Progress 32 Fireman Pete Muto and Zak Miller for attending the fireworks detail at the Elizabethtown Fair and staffing the 7-4 house Saturday night into Sunday. Muto and Miller responded to 3 incidents while staffing.

Station 7-4 also wants to thank Hershey Truck 48 and Mastersonville Engine 2-12-1 for standing by in our station while 7-4 operated the 2 alarm barn fire.


 
   
   
2 Fires In The First Due, And A Public Service

At 0837 hours, Engine 7-4-2 and RE 7-4-1 responded to the Old Hershey and Indian Rock Circle for a vehicle on fire.

RE 7-4-1 went on the scene with 1 vehicle in the driveway fully involved. RE 7-4-1 made the hit, fire knocked down, incident under control at 0852 hours.

Later in the afternoon, Station 7-4 along with Stations 7-11, 7-1, 7-5, 7-9 and 88 was alerted to East Washington Street at the Saint Peters Catholic Church School for a fire reported.

Deputy 7-4 (Bock) arrived and found a fire in the window. 7-4 made a quick knock and checked for extension. The box was downgraded to 7-4 only shortly after. The box was placed in service an hour later.


 
Friday Brings 8 Calls For Station 74

Rescue Engine 7-4-1 made responses for numerous crashes in the borough. One crash needed a door popped in order to get to the patient.

Later in the afternoon RE 7-4-1 was dispatched to Middletown Borough for a Structure fire at Frey Village Nursing Home. RE 7-4-1 was recalled while enroute.

Towards evening, Station 74 was called out for a fire alarm.


 
Fire Reported On South Spruce Street

Around 1800, Squad 7-4 attended an event at the Elizabethtown Fair with Susquehanna Bank until 2100 hours.

After the event, Engine 7-4-2, Engine 7-4-1 and Deputy 7-4 (Bock) made the response to South Spruce Street and Vine Aly for a reported fire in the kitchen.

Engine 7-4-2 arrived with a light smoke condition inside and after investigating found burnt leaves in a pan on the stove. No extension was found and the box was placed in service 30 minutes later.


 
Engine 7-4-2 Tranfers To Mount Joy Station 7-5

Around lunch time, Engine 7-4-2 was dispatched to transfer to Station 7-5 (Mount Joy).

Mount Joy was on a working commercial building fire in their first due. Engine 7-4-2 spent about 4 hours in service for 7-5 until being released by Command 7-5.


 
R.I.T Assignment In Middletown For The House On Fire

At 0807 hours, Rescue Engine 7-4-1 made the response to Dauphin County, Middletown Borough for the house on fire.

RE 7-4-1 was given the RIT assignment and remained on the box for about an hour before being released.

Station 7-4 responded for a Med local in the first due later in the day


 
Companies Perform Training Drill For E-Town Fair

Around 1900 hours, Station 7-4 along with 7-11 (Rheems) and 7-1 (Bainbridge) took place in a training drill at the Elizabethtown Fair Grounds.

The drill consisted of pulling hand-lines and hose line advancement, Vehicle rescue and ventilation of the roof.

Drill  lasted about 2 hours before the departments cleared.


 
   
   
Busy Afternoon Brings 5 Responses For Station 74

At 1543 hours and 1651 hours, RE 7-4-1  took 2 crashes in the first due. Around dinner time Engine 7-4-2, RE 7-4-1, Chief 7-4-3 (Kline), and Chief 7-4-2 (Kinsey) made the response to the Madison at Village Green Apartments, The Brandywine Building for a smoke investigation out-side. Caller reported sparks coming from the hvac unit outside the apartments. Crews found no fire and no smoke and cleared the box in 10 minutes.

The evening ended around 2230 hours for back to back calls. First call was on Brown street for reported wires down and arching. Second call was on Turnpike road for a transformer explosion. Both incidents were covered by Chief 7-4-3 (Kline) and Engine 7-4-2.


 
27th Annual National Night Out Against Crime

This Evening, RE 7-4-1 Chauffeured by Marc Hershey and Firefighters Ryan Myers, Scott Adkins, Mike Smith and Jon Miknis attended the 27th Annual National Night Out Against Crime.

RE 7-4-1 made visits to parks, pools and ended the event at Rita's in the 74 District. EFD Volunteers want to thank the community from  Elizabethtown Borough and surrounding townships for their support!


 
   
   
RE 7-4-1 Goes For The RIT Assignment, Working Structure Fire In Middletown

Box 88-3 was struck at 0146 hours for a working structure fire in Middletown, Dauphin County.

RE 7-4-1 responded with a crew of 6 and was advised by Dauphin County Radio of a working fire at the intersection of S. Union St. and Keystone ave.

Units that operated were in a defensive attack throughout the incident. Crews from RE 7-4-1 took the RIT assignment and cleared the 88-3 Box around 0600 hours.


 
   
   
Lieutenant Shaffner and Erin Shaffner Brings A Baby Girl Into The World

At 0206 hours, Allison Makayla Shaffner was born weighing 6 lbs 15 oz and 20 inches.

EFD volunteers want to Congratulate the shaffners and wish the best of luck for the future of Baby girl Allison.


 
MVA Involving Fire on North Market

At 1236 hours, RE 7-4-1, Engine 7-4-2 and Chief 7-4 (Drey) responded to the 100 block of North Market Street for a vehicle accident involving fire.

Chief 7-4 arrived to find one car into a pole and a fully involved engine compartment. RE 7-4-1 arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. Minor injuries were reported and crews spent about 30 minutes doing overhaul and cleaning up debris.
